Fun Romance to Binge in Your Pajamas

Top 5 Bingeworthy Shows and Movies - Popcorn Romances

The Mindy Project

It was the first week of lockdowns with Covid in March 2020 and I was completely overwhelmed. Everything felt so uncertain and I needed something with more reliability. I found that in The Mindy Project.

Night after night, I’d lay in my bed. Covers pulled up to my shoulders and watched the ridiculous love of life of Mindy Lahiri. Wonderfully imperfect. Filled with moments of complete chaos. At the last episode, I was satisfied with how the story ended. An excellent binge.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

So, I watched the movie then read the book. Loved both. Recommend both.

These movies - 1 - 2 - 3- were so much fun to watch. They infect you with all the right tingles. Lifting with sweet romance and gut wrenching with heart ache. The kind we all imagined for high school romances. But many of us did not come close to experiencing.

My crush never knew I existed. But I loved him. :)

Never Have I Ever

From the time this show has come out, it takes me only a couple of days to devour the episodes of the season. They’ve carried me through the darker periods of the last few years, where I’ve taken in refuge in my covers and gladly escaped to high school.

And although voiced by Jon McEnroe, I find Devi’s internal voice is spot on for the awkward, misguided, and ever-evolving self of a 15-year-old. Her chaotic journey is delightful to watch. Learning along with her that actions have consequences. Relationships are complicated in both romance and friendship. And that we constantly have opportunities to reinvent ourselves - sort of.

Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23

Sadly, only two seasons, this is a gem of a must-see. But be prepared. It’s not cute. It’s not sweet. It is, however, hilariously irreverent and crass. If you’re in to that kind of thing. And I am.

From episode one, the series hooked me with a “non-traditional” catalyst for a very honest, deep, and caring friendship. The two main characters of the series connect so well with my internal ying-yang. June is definitely my everyday persona of responsibility and drive, while Chloe, minus the heavy drinking, is my deep down partier that is only allowed to show herself at the occasional wedding reception and a late night. I hope to see more of her in next decade.

The Kissing Booth

I didn’t mean to watch this movie and its sequels but I did. It was a crazy experience.

Most of my romance binges happen during times of stress or anxiety. During these times, I’m looking for a happy ending. So, The Kissing Booth looked like it maybe could’ve been that. It has a happy ending but not without a fair amount of crazy drama.

The love interest is a bit toxic and I’m not entirely sure I’d want a teen to be watching this as model for relationships or love. However, if you’re a full-on grown-up looking for a hot mess express of a movie to watch with a glass of wine, chocolates, and popcorn. This is the one. Get your jammies on and watch the madness.
