A gem I found on my “You May Like This” list on Hulu was a movie called “Welcome to Happiness.” And it was a great pick for me, and my sis, it’s our type of story. It explores one of our favorite topics - the synchronicity of life and the timeline that your choices and decisions thread the story of life together.

It took me way longer than it should have to read and finish this book. This is the type of story that if I did not have a life I would have devoured in a sitting. Sadly, sittings do not happen anymore and reading only happens in the nooks and crannies. And even with the frequent pockets of time, I’d only dented a few chapters. So, for this beautiful story, I made an effort to have some time with it. On vacation at the lake, while children were safely in life jackets and playing in the mud, I was able to cut into the first half of the book. I’m bummed that I’m late to the party with ‘Eleanor & Park’ by Rainbow Rowell, but I’m thrilled that I made it. I adore this book and now am sad that I purchased it as an electronic book. Sometimes it’s easier to say goodbye to characters when you have the tangible pages to remind you that you can return to them. A month or so ago, I was looking for a book club to join and found a discussion group in Indiana (where I am not). My sister and I have a dream of a podcast called “Hello Sister” where we eventually get to broadcast our deep discussions of inspiration, metaphysical theories, and strategies for coping with life. We haven’t quite gotten there. We will one day – hopefully sooner than later. For now, the podcast that seems to be filling the gap is “You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes”.
When looking for entertainment while my other obsession True Crime Obsessed went on a two-week hiatus, I had happened upon this great collection of discussions with comedian Pete Holmes. In the past, I’ve appreciated Pete’s comedy specials
Watching a documentary, 20/20, or based-on-a-true-story movie will usually propel me into a week long research project complete with public records and local paper reports. This is not a past time shared with many, but it’s real - I’ve learned a lot.

About two years ago, my sis and I finished our MS. We were ready to query. By spring, we’d have an agent. By summer, we’d have a book deal. By the fall, we’d be hot stuff.
But that’s not what happened.
By spring, we’d been rejected eleven times. By summer, we’d received not even a request for more pages. And by the fall, we were dead in the water. Researching agents, querying, and being rejected or receiving nothing at all. So is the life of querying writers...
Recently on Twitter, one of my Twitter Buddies asked, “What scares you most about writing?” My answer, “That I’m horrible and delusional. That when I read my work and its sounds good, I must be having an episode.” His response, “I deal with that too. It’s paralyzing, isn’t it?”
And the truth is it really can be. This year has been trying. We ventured into our journey of querying our manuscript in October 2015. And we were rejected. Like a lot. Like every time. And how could this be possible? We had edited the heck out of our manuscript. We had Beta-readers that loved it, and couldn’t wait until the next book. How were we so off the mark?
